Last week 21-year-old man died after a huge binge drinking Party organized on Facebook. Its been reported that French authorities were calling for measures to control Facebook-organized cocktail parties after the incident.

According to the report the party was organized on Facebook and attended by an estimated 10,000 people in Western France town Nantes.

According to DW-World report: “There’s a growing trend in France of parties organized on Facebook turning into mass drinking binges of thousands of people. The death of a Nantes man has prompted concern in the government over ‘Facebook aperitifs.’”

During and after the party, police in Nantes arrested 41 people on charges of drug trafficking, public drunkenness and violence.

Mayor of Nantes, Jean-Marc Ayrault, said: “We cannot let something like this just pass.This is a national problem, and it must be dealt with on that level. We have to confront this new social phenomenon”.

Nantes was also the site of the first of the Facebook aperitifs in November, Dozens of young people passed out from drinking too much, and 38 had to be hospitalized, that have since spread to other parts of France.

The fad is growing more and more popular in France, with similar events having taken place in other cities earlier this year.

Its also been reported that Organizers of a Facebook aperitif near the Eiffel Tower in Paris on May 23 expect at least 50,000.
