Park complains that many application developers get ahead despite the fact that they violate Facebook’s terms of service.

“So far, [Facebook has] built a system where you can only win by cheating,” Park said at a panel discussion at Web 2.0 Expo, a conference in San Francisco. “They don’t enforce their policies clearly, transparently or consistently . . . And when you try to talk about it with them, they give you this, ‘We’re young, we’re figuring it out’ line, but this is business.”

Although Park was reluctant to name names, she says she’s seen quite a few applications that have copied parts of social graphs to their servers.

And on another note, she thinks a lot of the ads on Facebook are “skanky.”

“They’re these cheesy sexyish ads . . . And who does that help?”

Once again Facebook has redesigned its look and so many users are already started make complains. Some members have even formed protest groups to pressure Facebook to reconsider the move. Also so many angry status messages and even a protest day has been planned. One group called “One million against the new Facebook look,” had 254,512 members at this afternoon.
The last time Facebook went through a redesign, a few months back, thousands of people took an instant dislike to it. This time, however, I wonder whether the people at Facebook will be able to get off so lightly. I like to think that I know a fair amount about user experience after my years of web and application design, and I feel that they may have lost the plot a little bit on this one.

The big difference between the last change and this one is that last time round it was more of a re-arrangement of existing features than a more substantial change of direction. Whereas the Facebook-using public already knew what all the features were, and were quickly able to relocate those that they used, this latest update has left many, including myself, scratching our heads in confusion.

Christine Ledo, a veterinary technician in Oakland, said she’s upset that Facebook changed how it handles what she called “passive information.” Previously, she could see in her feed when a friend connected with someone else or joined a group. It tipped her off to people she might also want to friend or groups she might want to join. Now, she complains, the information appears in a different place or not at all.

Ledo said she’s giving Facebook a month to fix the problem. Every day the company doesn’t, she said, she sends it a message. If Facebook doesn’t respond after a month, Ledo said, “I am deleting my account.”
