As we all know that President Obama doesn’t like kids to use Facebook and other social media sites even though he made full use of Facebook to get vote from young generation in the presidential election and had raised hell of money for his election campaign with the help of his 24million followers on his Facebook page. And now its been reported that President Obama has banned his daughters from using Facebook.



Uk newspaper Mail Online reported on Saturday that President Obama, also called “First Social Media President”, said: “It does not make much sense to put the most private details of his family life on public view and he doesn’t want strangers knowing their family business”.

US President Obama have 2 daughters, Malia 13 and Sasha 10. Malia is now old enough to join Facebook but President Obama said that he will not allow his daughters to join Facebook until they are both 4-years older.

The Statement comes after many private photos on his official Facebook page revealed. In an interview Mr. President said: “Why would we want to have a whole bunch of people who we don’t know knowing our business? That doesn’t make much sense. We’ll see how they [his daughters] feel in four years”.

However, earlier this week White House released latest official family portrait with the caption “The new Obama Family Portrait”. Portrait shows that President Obama is sitting with first lady Michelle Obama and both daughters. And the portrait got 71,000 likes and 11,000 comments on Facebook.

Without thinking of president obama’s other views and political decision we should totally support him on this matter that Facebook is not for kids and we totally respect his private life. Total respect the decision.

Group of Facebook Users posted Facebook Mark Zuckerberg personal pictures on image hosting website to expose facebook security flaws. Members of a Body Building forum revealed the flaw in a instructional tutorial of step-by-step guide of how to view private photos on facebook.



According to the instruction, when facebook users report a profile picture of some facebook user as inappropriate, Facebook ask the reporting user to view more personal pictures of same user. Group of facebook users used this security flaw and break into Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg account and posted 14 personal pictures of Marck Zuckerberg on internet with the title “It’s time to fix those security flaws Facebook”. Images included Mark Zuckerberg picture with girlfriend preparing food in kitchen, holding a chicken and a meeting with US President Barak Obama.

Important point is that just a week ago Federal Trade Commission warned facebook for privacy settings which were updated two years ago and demanded facebook to do regular audits over the next 20 years. Federal Trade Commission also accused facebook for deceptive practices.

Though facebook claimed that they have fixed the flaw but it clearly shows that facebook has never been sersious about privacy settings and have never taken appropriate actions since facebook changed privacy setting two years ago.

In a statement Facebook says: “Earlier today, we discovered a bug in one of our reporting flows that allows people to report multiple instances of inappropriate content simultaneously. The bug allowed anyone to view a limited number of another user’s most recently uploaded photos irrespective of the privacy settings for these photos. This was the result of one of our recent code pushes and was live for a limited period of time. Upon discovering the bug, we immediately disabled the system, and will only return functionality once we can confirm the bug has been fixed”.

Facebook has finally met its fate in a judgment passed by Lahore high court. Justice Azmat Saeed ordered the Ministry of Telecom and Information Technology to block the social networking website, Facebook for maintaining content of religious discrimination. According to news published in Pakistan today, there was a petition demanding the ban on Facebook for holding notorious competition based on blasphemous caricatures on May 20, 2011. The court has ordered the government to disabled Facebook or ban Facebook and deliver a compliance report by October 6, 2011.

This is being rightfully done to a social networking site that supports religious discrimination. A Similar event took place an year back with consequences that followed to temporarily restrict access to Facebook in Pakistan. Either the mistake is somehow repeated or intentionally done because Facebook Platform Policies clearly state:

You will not post content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.

Even if the Facebook administrators failed to see it the first time, how come they not notice it when the competition was intentionally held again after a period of one year? The administrators have the complete control to remove any controversial material being posted on their website to ensure quality as stated in Facebook terms:

• You will not use Facebook to do anything unlawful, misleading, malicious, or discriminatory.
• We respect other people’s rights, and expect you to do the same.
• You will not post content or take any action on Facebook that infringes or violates someone else’s rights or otherwise violates the law.
• We can remove any content or information you post on Facebook if we believe that it violates this Statement.

What sort of right do Facebook respect if it supports humiliation of a certain religion despite having complete authority to remove content based on controversy? This also provokes another question in reader’s mind, why is a social networking website being used as a tool to promote religious violence?

Professor Baroness Greenfield, A well known scientist, of pharmacology at Oxford University indicated that Facebook is growing up a self-obsessed generation who have childlike desires and have concentration problems.

Prof. Baroness Greenfield believes that growth of social life on internet and as well as high use of computer games could effectively “rewire” the brain.

This can result in reduced concentration, a need for instant gratification and poor non-verbal skills, such as the ability to make eye contact during conversations.

Prof.Baroness Greenfield also a former director of research body of the Oxford University, said: “Why should someone be interested in what someone else has had for breakfast? It reminds me of a small child (saying): ‘Look at me Mummy, I’m doing this’, ‘Look at me Mummy I’m doing that’. It’s almost as if they’re in some kind of identity crisis. In a sense it’s keeping the brain in a sort of time warp.”

Prof. Greenfield continued: “Some Facebook users feel the need to become ‘mini celebrities’ who are watched and admired by others on a daily basis. They do things that are ‘Facebook worthy’ because the only way they can define themselves is by ‘people knowing about them’. It’s almost as if people are living in a world that’s not a real world, but a world where what counts is what people think of you or (if they) can click on you.”

However, Despite accepting that millions are removing their facebook accounts, Facebook doesn’t agree with dropping of growth rate. Facebook spokesperson said: “Yes, many in the U.K., Canada and the United States are getting off Facebook, but we are growing in places like Mexico and Uganda”.

A 55-year old woman who is unemployed because of her back injury problem falls for a $500,000 scam. It all started with a Facebook Wall message “You have Won”.

A woman, who doesn’t want to reveal her name, clicked on the message and she was told to send an email to the Facebook claims department with given code numbers. After some days she received an email with the message that she needs to transfer $544 to Trans Global Express Courier Service so she can recieve her $500,000 cheque. She did it via Western Union so she can get her enormous cheque couriered quick smart.

Later that night she received a call from a man who told her that she needs to transfer further $5000 to the British Immigration Tax Offices to clear her cheque.

She spoke to her daughter who told her its most probably a scam. Woman still went to her bank to get an application for bank loan as she doesn’t have enough money but didn’t filled it and send an email back to the scammer that she didn’t have enough money. She then went to Police station.

Woman said: “But I never filled it in. I emailed the people back and told them I didn’t have enough money.”

In her statement she said: “I was thinking, Oh God, someone is looking after me. I didn’t even enter any competition. I was overwhelmed. It’s all just so embarrassing. I just can’t believe I fell for it now. I’m not a gullible person.”

About the money, $544 she transfered via WU, Woman said: “I was told it was needed because it was such a large amount of money.”

Later after investigating Police issued a warning via press statement for others to not to fall for the scam.

Most people will admit they are addicted to Facebook, but not everyone will admit they use the site to check up on their significant others or potential mates.

A new study by University of Guelph Ontario, called, “More Information than You Ever Wanted: Does Facebook Bring Out the Green-Eyed Monster of Jealousy?” finds Facebook contributes uniquely to feelings of jealousy.

Study found the social networking site can contribute to a “negative feedback loop,” where the user logs on and sees exchanged messages or photos and because of what they see, they log on more frequently to monitor the communication.

Study reveals that the availability of information plays a huge role in the outcome. The open nature of Facebook exposes people to information and exchanges about their partner they would not otherwise see.

Dr. Howard Markman, a professor of psychology at the University of Denver who is sometimes referred to as “Dr. Love” by colleagues, said:
“There is no doubt there is more to negotiate. It’s kind of like nuclear energy. It can be used for good, but there is a lot of potential for danger”.

To avoid that danger Markman says face-to-face communication is critical, He Continues: “Fighting about Facebook can be hard, but people need to learn how to talk and openly handle what’s going on and learn how to set some boundaries about what is acceptable and what is not”.

Glen Gilbert, who recently ended a three-year relationship, says he used facebook to see who is ex-girlfriend was adding as friends, who she had pictures with and her interactions with other users.

He said: “Right after she broke up with me, I stalked her profile, and when I saw her with other men, it hurt”.

Even before the break up, Gilbert says conversations about the same topics would come up and sometimes be a point of conflict. He said: “When I came across pictures of her with other men, I would ask who the guy was, just insecurity on my part. It didn’t lead to the break up, but it definitely caused tension”.

And we all know Gilbert is not the only one constantly logging on to a romantic partner’s page and feeling jealous.

Those in the financial circuit are criticizing Zuckerberg for walking away from a multibillion dollar franchise. Facebook is currently ranked as one of the wealthiest businesses in the world, with economists estimating its value at around 7.9 billion.

But Zuckerberg remains unruffled by these accusations. He says he will stand by his decision to give Facebook the axe. “I don’t care about the money. I just want my old life back.

The Facebook Corporation suggests that users remove all of their personal information from the website before March 15th. After that date, all photos, notes, links, and videos will be permanently erased.

Vice President of Technical Affairs at Facebook, Avrat Humarthi said: “After March 15th the whole website shuts down. So if you ever want to see your pictures again, I recommend you take them off the internet. You won’t be able to get them back once Facebook goes out of business”.

UPDATE: After Facebook shutting down rumor spread like a fire on all over the internet. Mark Zukerberg and Facebook Officials denied by saying that there isn’t any truth in Rumor. So its been official now Facebook is not shutting down on March 15th. I am sorry guys we need to wait more for the big day

According to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report “Terrorist Use of Social Networking Sites: Facebook Case Study”, Terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda are using Facebook to share operational information and to target, recruit and radicalize 500million members of Facebook.

Th DHS report reveals that terrorists are using social networking sites especially facebook for quite some time.

The report also revealed the way terrorists and jihadists use facebook for their purpose. Some of them are:

1 – A way to share operational and tactical information, including bomb recipes and weapons maintenance.

2 – A gateway to extremist forums. In this way, Facebook acts as a gateway or launching pad for further radicalization and for easy access to sites where explosives recipes and IED information are regularly posted.

3 – A media outlet for propaganda.

4 – A source of remote reconnaissance for targeting purposes.

According to report investigators also have found some thread on radical forums regarding the need to make “serious efforts to optimize Facebook usage” and “Use Facebook as a platform for reaching a wider, younger audience”

Steve Graham, senior director for EC Council, a cyber security certification membership organization, said: “Every person who connects to the Internet with a computer needs to take this issue seriously. Reports like this show we are figuratively sitting next to terrorists. So are our friends, our kids and anyone else who types www”.

Graham added: “Concerning factor here is the speed at which an entire demographic can be located and communicated with. DHS mentions the use of social media to find groups with similar interests. Fact is, what used to take months to get a few recruits who meet the right criteria is now on a harvested mailing list. Groups are being communicated to in the hundreds, speeding up recruiting efforts.”

Jeff Bardin, chief security strategist at security firm XA Systems, said: “The youth who come to Facebook looking for jihadist information are the Generation X and Y youth who also don’t worry too much about the security of their profiles and what they post, providing easy prey for intelligence agencies worldwide to access, infiltrate and fully penetrate those wishing to learn.”

A Facebook spokesman said: “We react quickly to reports of inappropriate content and behavior. Groups that threaten violence towards people are taken down, as are groups that express hatred towards individuals and those sponsored by recognized terrorist organizations.”

But the report pointed out that the information is not screened before being posted, and can be seen by those waiting for it before it is removed.
