All young people need to be "in". It is due to normal emotions that humans on this step of life need company and acknowledgement of peers. As babies, they need their parents, when kids are in school age, they need groups of their age. When they grow older, the partner becomes the most important attachment figure. So if you exploit the need of the teenagers to be part of the community, it is very easy to get them attached. It is like the training of dancing bears, they react forcefully.
Or, if you doubt my words: How do you feel when you are "out"?

I really don't understand why people think Facebook is fun. This is the biggest bullsh*t humanity will ever know lol.

What happened to people ?! Now the only way you can make friends is with Facebook. Honestly, the people who are adding you may not even talk to you the whole time they have you on their 'friends' list. This is pathetic...

Facebook shouldn't exist. It's such a waste of time and it's useless. You don't learn anything on it, the only thing you know is that one of your 'friends' got drunk last night or that your ex-boyfriend is dating another b*tch.

I'm sick and tired of it. Hope they'll do something to shutdown that load of crap.

I am really surprised at the fact that most people have made Facebook their staple diet without questioning it's need .Do we really care what one's fifth grade classmate, one's college crush or ex-workplace buddies are doing-i mean-on Facebook you can be "in touch" with these "contacts" all throughout your life.Do we really think it is of any consequence to be in touch with such a motley inconsequential group. For me the only people who do make a difference and do stay along with us for a major part of our lives are parents, close relatives,"real" friends and one's life partner.

For Facebook addicts-get real!!!

Tell me, what have you accomplished with adding dozens of friends everyday? Do you even know any of these people? Or are you just doing it for the sake of whoring yourself out to people?

If you accept my friend request and I message you, not once, not twice, but THRICE within just about a week and you don’t respond AT ALL (while taking the time to “like” silly status updates and spamming random bullshit on your wall all day long) then this pretty much proves my point.

Social networking is the worst form of, well, socializing. I live my life outside of the computer, having fun with friends. Not sitting alone in my room, hoping that really cute girl I’m stalking “liked” the poem I wrote her.

Basic, simple usage error in the very first paragraph "their life is really effected" -- should be AFFECTED. You lost your credibility scant seconds into this article. What kind of authority can the writer be on ANYTHING?

Hint to Editors: You should have stayed in school. It's no freakin' wonder kids today can't use their own native language well enough to pass a simple standardized test for 8th-graders, AFTER they've gone through high school. A crying freakin' shame.
