We all know that Terrorists and Hate groups are always have their presence on internet and modern technology. However, they are growing and flourishing themselves quicker on social networking sites especially on Facebook.
According to a report from the Simon Wiesenthal Center (SWC), groups that promote violence, terrorism, homophobia, antisemitism, and other forms of intolerance grew by 20% in the last year alone.
The SWC’s associate dean Abraham Cooper said in a news conference Monday. “The biggest growth is where [it] is for everyone: in social networks. In particular, Facebook is highlighted the most in the group’s report as places for people to gather and spread ideas, such as how to create cell phone detonators, Light Anti-Armor Weapons (LAW) missiles, and more. There were even hate games floating around online, such as one that focused on bombing Haitian earthquake victims.”
Unsurprisingly, terrorists and other groups have become fans of social networks because that’s where the kiddies are—young people are particularly vulnerable to messages from these groups, and if Facebook is the best way to reach them, then that’s where the groups will go.
SWC says that despite its members have met with Facebook officials to have some of these groups removed, but with over 200 million users, online bigots have to date outpaced efforts to remove them.”
